About this project

Explore the engineering
of a data center in orbit.

Orbital Data Center is an interactive mission workbench for studying how spacecraft hardware, computing workloads, and orbital operations fit together.

One spacecraft. Connected decisions.

Size a spacecraft, inspect its equipment in 3D, and follow its mission from launch to retirement. Change a workload or a hardware assumption and explore the consequences for power, heat, mass, communications, and operations.

The workbench runs its model in your browser. It is a place to explore assumptions and tradeoffs, inspect the modeled results, and learn how the subsystems affect one another.

A project by

John Benac

I’m a systems engineer with a background spanning aerospace, engineering design, software, and hands-on prototyping. I build tools that make ideas practical and systems people can explore and understand.

Orbital Data Center brings those interests together in a spacecraft engineering workbench. You can find my other projects and more about my work at johnbenac.com.
